PIO After-School Music Video Workshop (8 weeks)
Hosted by community-based organizations and high school campuses, the after-school music video workshop is a project-based learning experience that equips high school youth (ages 13-17) with skills and confidence needed to shoot their own music videos. Upon completion of the eight week workshop, participants possess polished music videos they can add to their reels, a skill set that prepares them for entry level positions in the entertainment industry and a crew of working professionals eager to assist students in advanced training and employment opportunities. Each workshop concludes with a screening of the students’ music videos.
PIO In-School Visual Arts Workshop (18 weeks)
Standards-aligned and positioned for credit as an elective, the curriculum for the visual arts workshop was designed with public school arts programs in mind. Through filmmaking and music video production, high school students (ages 13-17) are exposed to theory, criticism and practical application that provide an intensive, hands-on approach to the dynamic world of visual arts. Working in tandem with homeroom teachers, professional filmmakers lead engaging courses that bring real world experience into traditional visual arts and English classrooms. Collaborating in small groups similar to film crews, students receive valuable instruction and one-on-one feedback that empower them to shoot and edit professional quality films and music videos. The workshop culminates in a screening of the students’ finished projects.
PIO Career Bridge Project (4 weeks)
Structured as a transitional program for high school graduates (ages 18-24), the PIO Career Bridge Project collaborates with Hollywood CPR to ensure students have the tools needed to promote their talents and skills to potential employers in the entertainment business. During this four week intensive, working professionals assist young adults in crafting resumes, assembling highlight reels, designing business cards, building personal websites and participating in job search and interview training. In addition, participants are enrolled in the Hollywood CPR production trade school orientation, which assists them in applying for financial aid and entrance into the advanced film program. The primary objective of Career Bridge is to help young adults apply the training received in PIO workshops to workplace internships, entry level employment positions and other career-defining opportunities they will incur after high school.
Live Arts Group (LAG) prides itself on immersing gifted, but underserved, youth in highly technical, “equipment-heavy” workshops that mirror the professional sets they will someday work on within the entertainment industry. In addition, students are able to comprehend how knowledge accrued in math, science and English classes is applied to budgeting, scriptwriting, storyboarding, editing and other crucial components of filmmaking. Through Pass It On, Live Arts Group remains committed to utilizing the exciting world of film and music video production to enrich the lives of at-risk youth and young adults.
